The Physical Plant Division provides and maintains the University's physical environment. The Division's primary purposes are:

  • to keep the University's buildings clean and sanitary;
  • to operate, secure, maintain, and repair the buildings and appurtenances, and the campus utility distribution systems;
  • to provide an adequate and reliable source of electricity, steam and potable water.

These are, in turn, the primary missions of two of the Division's units: Building Services, and Power and Water.

Other key functions:

  • to provide services and facilities for reliable data, video, and voice communications, and to provide 24-hour campus directory information assistance (Telecommunication Systems);
  • to coordinate and direct planning and design of major new facilities; to plan the extension renewal and replacement of plant facilities, to maintain all facility records, to provide daily construction field inspection (Engineering and Architectural Services);
  • to achieve prudent energy usage (Power and Water and Maintenance Services);
  • to provide vehicle transportation through charter buses, vehicle leasing, and vehicle fuel and maintenance (Transportation Services);
  • to provide solid waste disposal as well as recycling services (Recycling and Waste Management);
  • to provide accounting, business, and human resources support to the division and its customers (Business and Personnel).
