Well done, Physical Plant!

Custodial Services

Life Sciences custodians Robin Hollingsworth and James Goff received the following letter from Brian Jespersen, core research manager at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology:
The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology would like to extend a hand of thanks for the wonderful services you have provided. Thank you for going above and beyond in your attention to and cleaning of the PHM/TOX Core Facility rooms. Hopefully you are aware, last weekend the PHM/TOX Department hosted potential graduate candidates for the incoming fall Class of 2009. These candidates have an important and often tough decision in selecting the proper graduate program. Hopefully, with your help, we have eased their decision in selecting the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Michigan State University as their graduate program of choice. Thank you!

Gayle Wilson received the following e-mail from Marge Barkman, office assistant III at the Office of Communication:
I want to write you to let you know how great an employee you have in Mike Giovanni. Mike took the time last week to come to our floor before we left for the day to ask everyone if there was anything that needed done. I had new carpeting laid in my office last year and it had become soiled with the usual dirt but I also had two "ink spots" which developed behind my door that I don't know how they got there. I showed them to Mike and he offered to arrange to clean my carpet. He told me he would e-mail me when he could get it done. He wrote yesterday that he could do it last night or Wednesday or Thursday or whichever was best for me. I took him up on last night’s offer, and he is a man of his word and the job is excellent!
I am a firm believer in complimenting people when they do good work and truly show commitment to their jobs and I have told Mike myself. BUT I am also a believer in letting a supervisor know when they have a "gem of an employee" and you have one in Mike Giovanni.

Melanie Pollard received the following e-mail from Michael Hudson, director of the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities:
I thank you (Michael Cole, Kevin Kelso and Gracie Jones) for the extra attention to detail you provide in our office. From what seems to be daily checks on my trash can to the surprise cleaning of our sink that makes it shine beautifully, I and the entire staff thank you! This is a big building and you no doubt have lots of work so we appreciate you and your extra effort.

Engineering & Architectural Services

Robert Nestle received the following e-mail from Mike Rice, Department of Police and Public Safety:
Friday last, we were asked by the prosecutor's office to come up with some full-scale prints of the layouts of all the floors in the Shaw Ramp for a court case that begins tomorrow. Just wanted you to know that Scott Friend dropped everything he was doing and went out of his way to help us on very short notice... it was sincerely appreciated and he couldn't have been nicer or more professional. Class act.

Landscape Services

Steve Frank and Adam Lawver received the following e-mail from Adam Koivisto, manager of University Apartments:
Steve and Adam, I was at our student government last night and they commented on how much better the snow removal service is in the villages this year. They have noticed and wanted to say thank you. Thank you to you and your staff (Kathy Lezovich, Jim Kane and Mark Pokryfki for your work this year. We appreciate it!

Maintenance Services

Gus Gosselin received the following e-mail from Terry Link, former director of Campus Sustainability:
Kudos to the (Physical Plant) staff and Ron (Flinn) for what you all attempt to do to keep this place a highly functioning, safe and pleasant workplace. Wish I had time to write everyone a personal note, but the list is way too long and my time too short.

Telecommunication Systems

Rich Carroll and Tom Matt received the following e-mail from Lynnie Keefe, administrative assistant III at the Office of Research and Graduate Studies Vice President:
Thank you so much for handling my urgent and panicked call in such a timely manner. Five employees were not able to access phones or Internet at the time I called. Both of you came to the rescue and were able to come up with a solution in no time! I appreciate Rich taking the time to talk with me on such short notice to work things out and Tom for coming up with a quick and workable solution.
