Q: What kinds of services are provided?

A: Maintenance Services operates and maintains academic buildings, maintains the utility distribution systems, and performs related services at MSU. A wide variety of skills and materials in metal working, electrical, electronics, broadband cable, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, carpentry, roofing, masonry, locksmith, painting, and glazing trades are available for departmental facilities and projects.

Q: How do I request service for repairs or special projects?

A: Requests for routine or special services can be obtained by using the Service Request form.

Q: I'd like to use a paper Service Request form. Are these available?

A: You can download and save a copy of the Service Request in Adobe PDF. Service Request forms are also available from University Stores (stock number 140-2842). You can fax your request to (517) 355-5205, or send by campus mail to Physical Plant Division.

Assistance and Trouble Calls

Q: How do I request immediate assistance from Maintenance Services?

A: Maintenance staff is on duty Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 1:00 am (ET), to respond to problems and emergencies. Call (517) 353-1760 to get immediate service. After hours, all day Saturday, Sunday and holidays, dial "0"; the University operator will dispatch help.

Authorizations and Funding

Q: What authorizations do I need to make a Service Request?

A: A service request requires an active MSU account number and signature by an administrator approved to authorize expenditures against the account. Requests for alterations or improvements of facilities are required by the Office of Planning & Budgets, Admin Bldg, per Section 201 of the Manual of Business Procedures.

Q: I don't know who funds my building. Whom do I contact for service?

A: If Physical Plant Division is funded to perform service in your building, no service request is needed. Call the appropriate department to request the work. If you are unsure if your building is funded, call (517) 353-1760.
