The Physical Plant recently installed new hand dryers in select restrooms of its main building. The restrooms on the Engineering and BPO side of the building now contain Airblade hand dryers, while those on the Maintenance and Custodial side have dryers known as Xlerators.
According to Director of Building Services Gus Gosselin, they are currently there for testing purposes, giving Custodial and Maintenance Services first-hand experience. The goal of the project is to determine if using the new hand dryers would be more environmentally friendly than using paper towels.
According to Gosselin, should the dryers prove useful, they would likely be installed in new construction and remodeling projects across campus. They would not, however, be placed in existing restrooms due to the cost of installing electricity in those locations.
Gosselin said the hand dryers will remain installed at the Physical Plant for the foreseeable future.
